Congratulations to Stacey Fryer today as she became the Essex Womens County Unbadged champion. Having won her semi final at Saffron Walden today against Pearl Furne 21-13 she set up a final match against Linda Drewe from Falcon. After a shaky start falling 1-7 behind she then managed to fight back well and finish the game winning 21-14.
This is the second time in as many years that a Drums lady has won the title, who knows if we will make it three in a row next season.
The charity match held today together with Drums and Thurrock Bowls Clubs went wonderfully well, raising around £1,000 for St Lukes Hospice. Hopefully some photos will follow from the day!
The presentation will be made on Thursday 29th September.
Thanks again for all your support!
As the season ended Drums finished a bitter sweet third in the TDBA Premier League. After a poor start to the season seeing us firmly fixed to the bottom half of the table the members rallied around to finish the season with a flourish beating Aveley, Springhouse and missing out 5-2 to Pegasus in the final match of the season.
The result at Springhouse was encouraging after they were pushing to win the league on the night, and having only lost one game all season it was going to be a big ask for us to win, but win we did 5-2 only losing by 2 on the other rink allowing Springhouse to claim the title and for Drums to claim third place.
Here's to next season and maybe a better start!
In what has been a good season for the Drums ladies, they've seen themselves win the TALBA Division 1 league with a game to play.
In the competitions they have excelled too, with June O'Neill and Serena Madgewick getting to 2 county finals, including winning the County Pairs and adding in Michelle Squires to get runners up in the County Triples too. They then went on to Leamington for the Bowls England finals where they reached the quarter finals in the pairs, losing 19-20. Serena then managed to reach the semi final of the Junior Pairs with Jasmine Wilson.
Stacey Fryer has reached the semi final of the County Unbadged Singles with her game against Pearl Furne from Hadleigh Bowls Club to be played on Sunday the 28th August at Saffron Walden Bowls Club.
In the TALBA Competitions we again see a strong showing from the ladies with Michelle Squires making the Fred Bromley final with Mitchell Young (Springhouse) , the 2 Wood Singles and the Triples with Serena Madgewick and June O'Neill all on the same day.
Drums men once again have a presence in the Thurrock district finals this year. With a great individual season for Dave Pegler he finds himself in the 4 Wood Singles final and the 4 Wood Pairs will be contested by Alex Browning and Paul Wingham on Sunday the 11th of September. He is also likely to be participating in the Drums team for the League Knockout v's our neighbours Thurrock Bowls Club on the Sunday the 4th September at Aveley Bowls Club.
Again we find Dave Pegler making an appearance in the Group 9 Unbadged Singles where he will face John Smith of Gloucester Park and Murrayfield Bowls Club on Saturday the 3rd September at Grays Town Bowls Club.
David Patterson will be facing David Dar of Essex County Bowls Club in the Benevolent Singles final on Sunday the 18th September at Braintree Bowls Club
